Over the course of a few months, I have been able to progress really far with my skills and knowledge in the course. We’ve done a lot of units and work about different skills and techniques such as characterisation, improvisation, voice, volume etc. These skills have improved my ability to act when we did our baseline performance and evaluated it; I was able to learn what I needed to improve on over the course.
We had to adopt a play called ‘Bad muff’ and we based all of our activities around this play, for example, we had to do some hot seating where we had to play as our character and find out more about them. This helped me with playing my character as it allowed me to understand what he is like and how I could play him better. We also did other things like conscience corridor which allowed me to think about my character and how they would respond to different stimulus.
We’ve had to do a lot of group and single work so I have been able to develop my skills in both situations so I have been able to work more effectively in both. One of the group performances I did was where I had to do some off text improvisation and act a scene out where my character (Brendan) had to act out a scene with Brandon’s character (Lanny) and we had to figure out a scene where we would have our status’ change throughout the scene. This was a good way to get a better understanding of what status is and also how our character would react to the change in status.
Overall I think I have learnt a lot of my time doing the course, I have learnt a lot of new techniques and skills and how to work both in a team and on my own. I think my progress as an actor has progressed a decent amount and that I have grown in confidence since the start
